BLACK TANZ was a project formed and spearheaded by saxophonist and vocalist Yukinori Maru (a.k.a. Mal).
Active from 1986 to around 1989 with a revolving cast of members, BLACK TANZ were never a particulary prolific band - unlike it’s frontman who not only played with bands like LIBIDO, AUTO-MOD and YBO², but also curated both of the “Process of Evolution” compilations.
Here’s a sampling of their collected output showcasing the evolution (?) of the band. Do note the weird background vocals on the third track, courtesy of none other than Genet from AUTO-MOD (for some reason credited as “Kennet” in the liner notes).
